Dear person from Corona, California who Googled "focus and commit"
Today I was unexpectedly overjoyed when I checked my Google Analytics for Unraveled Idea Mill. As I looked through my results and traffic sources I saw someone had searched Google for "focus and commit". I thought "Wow someone got to my website by searching for that?" So, I searched for my website in Google under "focus and commit" and "BAM!" there is was. Not at the top or anything, but I didn't have to search into the 15th page. Try it if you want. Unraveled Idea Mill should be one of the first results on the second page. I thought that was pretty cool considering my site has only been live for about two months.
The other cool part was that I then dug into Analytics a little and found that this person was shown to be in Corona, California. For those not familiar with Google Analytics or any other well designed web statistics tool, a feature like this can be amazing. Here is a scenario(completely fictional):
I am marketing myself as "Cool and Affordable" (not really, but a great furniture company I work for does.) As I track my Analytics I see that people in the midwest are searching more for the "cool" word and people on the west coast search for "affordable" more. From a 50k ft. view I think "Hey people are getting this 'Cool and Affordable' thing. With the powerful features of a Google Analytics I can dive deeper and realize that actually there is a divide by region. So what does that mean?
Well, if I am running advertising in these areas I have two choices, or maybe more, but two I will mention.
- Play on that division and push the "affordable" in California and the "cool" in Indiana, or
- Try to strengthen the weak term in each market, with advertising, etc.
This also gives me a little more insight in what those customers are looking for. I can assess how various campaigns have worked with different regions and move from there. This is what Unraveled Idea Mill (and others) can help work on and exploit (in a totally moral and wonderfully happy way).
Cheers!
