Engaging Blog Content: Part 3 - Consider the Scope

So, you want to write more engaging blog content? Here is the next "great" tip:

Consider the scope: Readers need a certain amount of guidance. No really, myself included.

In my opinion a broad question like "How do you feel about this?" Will generally give someone too much to think about, thus paralyzing their response. When I think about how I feel about a topic I often have hundreds of thoughts run through my head and can't focus on any specific topic to write about. I need to have my scope narrowed. If the writer narrows it for me, this increases the chances of me posting.

On the flip side, don't get so narrow that a large portion of your audience doesn't feel qualified to answer. Asking "How do you feel about the recent addition of HSDPA to mobile networks in the US as compared to the evolution of EvDO Rev A?" Might alienate just a few people, although I might be able to conjure up a response. Maybe a question like "If you had affordable high speed internet access on your phone what would you use it for?"

I would suggest that pairing the illustrative text or images and video with a properly framed question will help readers focus on what you want them to, yet have a clear enough mind to respond.
